About us

Before I was born, my parents drove up into these mountains, and fell in love with this place. Put simply, they felt a connection to this place and wanted to raise their children here.

I spent much of my childhood here, and throughout my life, no matter where I have lived or traveled, these mountains have always felt like home.

Our connection to this land goes beyond ownership. Today, when I walk these mountains, there is a sense of history, family, and belonging that is difficult to put into words.

A Place That Centers You

There is something about being here that changes your pace.

Maybe it’s the sound of the South Fork Holston moving through the valley. The wind passing through the trees. Deer quietly feeding in a field. Walking through the woods and finding some mushrooms to cook for dinner. Casting a fly into cold mountain water. Or simply standing on a ridge and looking across miles of mountains without another house or streetlight in sight.

The longer you're here, the quieter everything seems to become.

For our family, these mountains have always been a place to explore, fish, hike, forage, gather together—and sometimes simply do nothing at all. Our children have grown up running through these woods and playing along the river, adding another generation to our family's connection with this place.

It has a way of bringing you back to what matters.

Those two words are more than a tagline for us. They describe what we believe is special about this place and what we hope to preserve.

We believe land like this should be cared for, not conquered. We try to disturb it as little as possible, protect the forests and wildlife, and allow the mountains to remain the way they were meant to be—natural, beautiful, and wild.

Our cabins were created with that same philosophy. They're comfortable places to stay, but the cabin itself isn't really the destination.

The mountains are.

The river is. The forest is. The silence is. The stars are.

Holston Wilds is our opportunity to share a place that has meant so much to our family for generations. Our hope is that when you come here, you experience some of what we have felt all our lives—that unmistakable feeling of slowing down, breathing a little deeper, reconnecting with the people you love, and feeling grounded by the natural world around you.
